Why Indians love advertising.
Eighty-six per cent of Indian consumers say that advertising provides good and useful information. In sharp contrast, only 50 per cent of Europeans agree.

Eighty-seven per cent of Indian consumers hold that advertising entertains them. Europeans are far more sceptical about the entertainment value of advertising. Globally, only 67 per cent of all consumers agree.

An overwhelming majority of Indian and global consumers, however, agree on two benefits of advertising: that it creates jobs, and funds sports and culture.

These are some key findings from the 2009 global survey of advertising commissioned by the World Federation of Advertisers and undertaken by AC Nielsen. Set against global surveys which have shown that consumer trust in advertising is low, this year& #8217;s survey is good news for Indian advertisers.more

Will lapsed Catholics answer ad”s call?.
Individual donors and a bequest will pay for most of the $1.3 million advertising initiative to lure lapsed Catholics back to the fold. Though I”m still not sure an upcoming ad campaign should be treated as news, the issue does pose a question. Is an ad campaign an effective way to evangelize or would it be more inviting for a group of Catholics to allocate more than a million dollars elsewhere?

In response to the trend, P&G launched ‘Basic’ versions of some of its name brands. At the risk of cannibalizing its higher-priced brands, P&G launched Charmin Basic toilet tissue and Bounty Basic paper towels, both of which experienced double-digit growth during 2009.

Their success led to a Basic version of its most recognized product, Tide. Tide Basic is now being tested in about 100 stores in Texas and Louisiana, including Kroger.

Frankly, I”m disgusted with the WH playbook as it seems to be emerging.

Let Obama/Rahm/Axelrod try and win in 2012 with the liberals and independents sitting on their hands. Even Cheney is being rumored as the next GOP POTUS claimant, and if we are going down as a nation, I can”t think of a better Captain to be chained to the helm than Cheney.

In a double whammy of grim news, the Irish owner of The Independent and British newspaper group Johnston Press laid bare the effects of the advertising recession.

Scotsman owner Johnston axed a further 439 jobs after its losses almost doubled over the first six months of 2009.

In the past, the typical advertisement might, say, feature a man splashing his cheeks with water or the actual products to some macho rock music.
But these days advertisements for men??s cosmetics often attempt to grab the attention of females as well. Take this line from a recent ad for the local brand Essor; ??I slept at his house. I used his skin????.??
A look into the history of men??s cosmetics at Amore Pacific tells it all.
A 1970s ad for its men??s cosmetics brand featured actor Nam Gung-won flying in a helicopter and riding a horse in the wild. Nam represented the typical ??tough guy?? of the time. In the 1980s, Amore Pacific discovered that women typically bought the cosmetics for the men. So the company changed its marketing strategy, promoting its products as ??men??s cosmetics approved by women,?? and saw its sales jump five-fold.In the 1990s, advertisements for men??s cosmetics had an urban, chic and futuristic feel.more

Still, I have mixed feelings about this.
