Obama Takes Inclusive Approach To Health Care Reform

Obama Takes Inclusive Approach To Health Care Reform.
In the early 1990s, the Clinton administration”s attempts at reform got shot down in a blaze of insurance-company advertising and a poisoned atmosphere. Mrs. Clinton had denounced the health care industry for ‘price-gouging, cost-shifting and unconscionable profiteering.’

We don”t know if industry”s pledge to voluntarily cut costs will achieve anything close to the promised results. But we do think some Obama-style reforms — such as reduced health care costs and universal coverage — are worth pursuing.

Syfy explains its name change

Syfy explains its name change.
Through creative advertising campaigns and noteworthy shows, cable networks such as TNT, FX, USA and lately AMC have established their identities with the public. We tend to know what we”ll be getting when we tune in to those channels: crafty escapism on USA, sophisticated storytelling on FX, mainstream procedurals on TNT and urbane, cinematic drama on AMC.

So why would an established cable network mess with a good thing?

For Sci Fi — which changes its name Tuesday to Syfy — it”s a matter of survival.

The old way of doing business — in which a network merely airs programs and collects ad dollars — won”t quite cut it in the multimedia future, said Sci Fi president Dave Howe in a recent interview.

And the name Sci Fi — which also applies to an entire genre of film, books and other forms of media — wasn”t something the network could trademark.more

This report provides in-depth analysis and market forecasts for the mobile advertising sector in the context of the global economic recession, and discusses how advertising spend is increasingly moving towards “below the line” activities such as mobile phone ads - offering unparalleled opportunity for consumer engagement.

Key forecasts include the number of users who receive advertising on their mobiles, both by region and by delivery channel (SMS, MMS, Mobile Internet, On-portal, In content downloads, Idle screen, P2P and Mobile TV). Other forecasts include cost per clickthrough (CPC) and cost per mille (CPM) rates and the number of users who respond to mobile advertising. The number of responses per annum and total adspend per channel are also forecast.

The report also analyses key drivers and constraints such as the personal nature of the mobile, enabling targeted and potentially more effective campaigns, and mobile”s perceived lack of reach due to low access rates of rich media content and services.more

Geeks double as scourges and sages at media summit

Geeks double as scourges and sages at media summit.
Meanwhile, long-established media companies are desperately trying to plumb new revenue sources as their advertising sales shrivel.

The 18-month-old U.S. recession has stung newspapers and broadcasters as advertisers have clamped down on their marketing budgets. But even before the economy collapsed, the Internet was luring consumers and advertisers from traditional media.

The trend has caused the media business to lag the overall economy, with revenue growing slower in good times and falling further during the recent downturn. The newspaper industry in particular has gone into a free fall, with U.S. ad revenue plunging $7.5 billion, or nearly 17 percent, last year.

Internet veterans like Pincus believe newspaper publishers and other media executives have to offer more engaging services that give their audiences more opportunities to commune and conduct commerce.more
