eMarketer: Virtual worlds to increase 55%

eMarketer: Virtual worlds to increase 55%.
‘Unfortunately, as with social networks, advertising has not kept pace with usage,’ said Debra Aho Williamson, eMarketer senior analyst and author of the new report, Kids and Teens: Growing Up Virtual. ‘Not surprisingly, the hype and fizzling out of Second Life, combined with the tough economy, have made some marketers skittish for virtual worlds in general.’

Virtual worlds specifically targeted to younger generations are forecast to do much better than those targeting all demographics or only adult demographics. In 2008 there were more than 150 youth-targeted virtual worlds existing or in development online.

Why are virtual worlds so entertaining for Generation Y and Millenials? Because virtual worlds are a near-combining of video games and social networks, both of which continue to have a strong showing with the younger demographics.more

Pay-per-click Advertising: Bing Delivering Improved Results

Pay-per-click Advertising: Bing Delivering Improved Results.
Bing”s revenue comes mainly from pay-per-click advertising, which many smaller ecommerce firms utilize.

We asked a leading pay-per-click management firm, The Search Agency, what sort of initial results it has seen on behalf of its clients who advertise on Bing. Frank Lee is senior vice president of client services for The Search Agency.

PeC: The Search Agency has placed pay-per-click client ads on Bing. Could you tell us about the size of the advertising there?

Lee: ‘We manage over 100 million keywords on behalf of our clients across all the major search engines. We have about 50 clients we partner with for paid search. Each client spends anywhere from 3 percent to 10 percent of its budget on Microsoft.’

PeC: How long have the campaigns been running on Bing?

Lee: ‘We were early beta testers of Microsoft adCenter”s API platform and have been managing accounts in Microsoft since the inception of adCenter.more

Focus/FGW owner looks beyond advertising

Focus/FGW owner looks beyond advertising.
The Cincinnati advertising executive has used four acquisitions since 2005 to grow his data-driven ad agency, Focus/FGW. Now he is exploring acquisitions outside his chosen industry.

Sharp said he was approached by a former client who wants to be general manager and limited partner in a Mazda/Volkswagen dealership in Tuscaloosa, Ala. So, he’s making an offer for the dealership this week and promises it won’t be the last purchase he pursues this year. He’s also looking at two deals involving HVAC companies in Ohio.

‘Everything’s on sale’

‘It’s a great opportunity in America. Everything’s on sale,’ he said. ‘Stock, businesses, properties, commodities. Most aggressive businessmen are looking beyond their traditional boundaries.’

Not every deal has panned out as planned for Sharp, but he’s never been timid about pulling the trigger.more

Super Rewards” advertising offers come to Twitter games

Super Rewards” advertising offers come to Twitter games.
As inevitable as spammy invites, advertising offers are now coming to games that use Twitter. Super Rewards, a leading provider of offers for games on Facebook and other social networks, is launching its service with 140 Mafia, a mafia-style Twitter role playing game.

Just like in Mob Wars on Facebook and a variety of copycat applications on various social networks, 140 Mafia has you go around its virtual world committing crimes, earning money — and special favor points from a fictional Godfather, through offers. Using these points you can use to buy more powerful weapons that will allow you to commit higher-paying crimes in the game. The offers, syndicated by Super Rewards from third-party advertisers, can range from ringtone subscriptions to discounts on video games. Take a look at the screenshot, below.more
