New study: Digital billboards are safe

New study: Digital billboards are safe.
Digital billboards are the hot thing in out-of-home advertising, attracting huge capital investments, along with advertiser interest. But just how quickly they populate America”s roadsides is still unclear, and a big factor is the resistance they face from citizens and government bodies across the country. A major objection, beyond the eyesore argument against billboards generally, is that digital billboards are unsafe. The changing of images as ads rotate represents a huge distraction to motorists, creating the potential for accidents, or so the argument goes. But now a new industry study finds no relation between traffic accidents and digital billboards. Commissioned by the Foundation of Outdoor Advertising Research, which is affiliated with the Outdoor Advertising Association of America, the study looked at five years worth of traffic data for an area in Rochester, Minn., where five digital billboards stand.more

A Little glooq Stretches Your Green Reach and Advertising Dollars

A Little glooq Stretches Your Green Reach and Advertising Dollars.
When challenged to generate donor dollars for a non-profit organization, two advertising execs based in Israel built glooq to take advantage of the power of employee emails (See one of the partners Elad Schneor pictured here).

Normally companies hate it when workers spend too much time communicating online. But glooq”s Schneor, originally from the UK, saw it as a way to enlist the organization”s 5,000 employees into marketing worker bees, without them having to do a thing.

The numbers of emails sent through a glooq campaign stack up: think about every email you send to all your friends, co-workers and clients every day. Rather than a stationary link, glooq is turning your send button and signature space, into an effective marketing tool that can expand your business relationships and your company”s bottom line.more

How to Be Creative in Advertising

Time to Buy TV, Radio, and Internet Ads?

Time to Buy TV, Radio, and Internet Ads?.
With advertising dollars scarce and large corporations cutting back on their marketing efforts, smaller businesses are reaping the benefits of significantly lower rates for ad buys they may have once thought were out of reach.

Prime-time TV slots are going for a 25% less than they sold for just last year, says Steve Cox, spokesperson for the Better Business Bureau. ‘The playing field for TV advertising is becoming more level, and small business owners can now take advantage of steep discounts for prime slots, as well as cut rates from PR firms and productions companies,’ he says.

J. T. Hroncich, managing director and principal of Capitol Media Solutions, a full-service advertising agency in Washington, says advertising rates are more negotiable than ever. ‘Before, some of these media companies didn”t do business with firms with smaller budgets, but it”s very easy to negotiate now with Web sites, television, and radio,’ he says.more

Adfortel Releases New Version of Patented Mobile Advertising

Adfortel Releases New Version of Patented Mobile Advertising.
The first version of its VoiceAds Engine offered operators and advertisers a unique audio based and handset independent mobile advertising channel. Version 2.0 greatly expands the reach of VoiceAds by also targeting incoming calls.

VoiceAds are audio commercials played instead of a ringback tone during the waiting period for connecting a call. Varying per country, an average of 15 seconds of currently unused call waiting time can be used as advertising airtime. This airtime offers multiple daily direct contact moments and massive guaranteed reach for advertisers, with the possibility to target on profiles and offer opt-in incentives to subscribers to the service.

Ringback tone services initially started the concept of replacing the traditional ringback tone during the call waiting period with music clips.more

Airborne advertising rises to new heights

Airborne advertising rises to new heights.
Behind the outfield wall, Roy Batson stood chuckling Monday as the machines in front of him spit out a new form of advertising: bubble clouds. Created by Snowmasters, an Alabama special effects company, they”re the latest effort by marketers to grab people”s attention.

The machines took a bubbly liquid, mixed it with helium, then cut it into 2- and 3-foot-wide clouds the shape of the Angels logo. The team added them to promote its own brand along with the beer, phone and gasoline companies whose messages are scattered throughout the stadium.

Snowmasters calls the clouds ‘Flogos,’ for flying logos. It has released them in the shape of golden arches at a McDonald”s-sponsored event in Las Vegas, the number ‘207′ for a Hard Rock Hotel opening in San Diego (207 is the hotel”s street address) and an ‘S’ for Sheraton Hotels and Resorts in New York.more

Advertising Considerations for Your Business

Advertising Considerations for Your Business.
The use of endorsements in business advertising must reflect the honest opinions or beliefs of the endorsing party. The endorsements may not be deceptive or unsubstantiated. Finally, there must be a good-faith reason to believe that the views expressed continue to represent the views of the endorser and that the endorser continues to be a bona fide user of the product for as long as the advertisement is run.

Example: A manufacturer of baseball bats cannot create an advertisement for its bats that features a picture of Babe Ruth holding a bat with the caption ‘The Babe Loved Our Bats,’ when in fact Babe Ruth never used their bats and never expressed an opinion of them.

Example: A commercial for shampoo featuring a famous Hollywood actress stating that the shampoo is the best she has ever encountered cannot be used for time-eternal if her repeated use of the shampoo caused her hair to fall out, prompting her to tell the country on national television that the product stinks and she would never use it again.more
